Kate Kira, Ph.D.
Just a quick and short intro about myself:
I am a post-op transsexual, got my SRS in 2001 and I had FFS surgery 6 months before that. I work in the academic field as a biologist. After I finished my Ph.D., I moved to the deep south of the United States working for a university as a post-doctoral researcher. As I live stealth to a large degree, I use a pseudonym for anything TS-related, and although lots of people within the TS community know my real name, hardly anyone outside that community knows anything about it. And that is the way I would like to keep it.
During my transition, I gathered a lot of information on several subjects, especially the more technical ones as Hormone Replacement Therapy (HRT) and various type of surgery like Sex Reassignment Surgery (SRS) and Facial Feminization Surgery (FFS).
After my transition, when my involvement with the day-by-day stories of my sisters became less and less, the requests for technical information did not become less. Knowing the importance for good information and the search for it, I decided to devote some of my time on the community. The question was more how. During my own search, I encountered that information about two issues was insufficient. The first was the lack of information on HRT for general physicians and doctors other then endocrinologists so that they could provide their patients with reliable and up to date therapy. The second was the lack of information about SRS and FFS surgeons.
In the mean while, more ideas surfaced and the idea to get everything together in a website arose. The result is the website you just found.
